Peter Durie, MD
Dr. Durie is Professor, Department of Pediatrics, and Member of the Institute of Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He is a Senior Scientist in the Program in Integrative Biology, Director of Cystic Fibrosis Research, The Research Institute, and Staff Gastroenterologist, Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Department of Pediatrics, the Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Durie maintains a focused research interest in the genetics and pathophysiology of a variety of inherited disorders of the exocrine pancreas including cystic fibrosis and Shwachman Diamond syndrome.
Dr. Durie is an internationally renowned expert in the diagnosis and care of children with disorders of the exocrine pancreas. He is founding co-editor of Pediatric Gastrointestinal Disease which is acknowledged as the definitive textbook in pediatric gastroenterology.
Currently, he is Director of CF research which is the largest and one of the most renowned disease-based research programs within the Hospital’s Research Institute. He was the recipient of the 2003 Shwachman Award, which is given annually by the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, to an individual who has made major scientific, educational and humanitarian contributions to the field of pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition in North America.
