Mary Ann B. Beirne – Treasurer

Since NPF’s inception, Ms. Beirne has diligently served on the Board of Directors and over the past two years has taken over the role of Treasurer. Over the years, she has continued to contribute her time and energy to benefit a cause which she is as passionate about as she is persistent. She assumed her role as an advocate after she and her seven siblings were faced with the disheartening news that their only other sister, Joan Birsic Dawson had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was lucky to have Dr. Bill Birsic, now Executive Director of NPF, as a member of her large family who helped to find clinical trials and medical resources for her sister. Sadly, Joan Dawson lost her fight at the age of 40, and ever since Ms. Birsic has resolved to help “create a resource that can give the same sense of comfort and security” as well as provide others with medical information and support that her family had access to.

Ms. Beirne received her BA in Finance & Accounting cum laude from Boston College. She started her career working for National Gypsum in the Decorative Products Division in Boston, and soon became the company’s first ever female controller. She now serves as Chief Financial Officer for Microfibres, Inc., an upholstery fabric manufacturer with plants in the U.S., Canada, Europe and soon, China. She is an active participant in numerous finance related associations and focus groups for business women.

Putting her background in finance to use, she has endowed NPF with such services as transferring the financial records to an automated program in order to assure that fiscal accountability was available to donors and the IRS for review. In addition, she has continued to assist with the annual golf outing in Pittsburgh. In her spare time, she enjoys fencing, kayaking, bike riding, skiing and spending time with family, including Joan Birsic’s daughters.
