What Is The Pancreas?

The pancreas is an organ and a gland. Glands are organs that produce and release substances into the body. The pancreas contains glands that release substances to help with digestion and control blood sugar. Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are common pancreatic conditions. Other pancreas conditions include pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.

Black/African American Guide to Pancreas Disease

Many studies suggest that environmental and socioeconomic factors have contributed to the increased risk of pancreas disease among African Americans. NPF’s Black/African American Initiative will address these issues with the hope of decreasing the incidence of pancreas disease in the Black/African American community.

Cookbook & Pocket Guide

The NPF Healthy Family Recipes for Pancreas Disease includes recipes for pancreatitis patients (chronic and pediatrics) as well as pancreatic cancer. There is even a kid-friendly section. Available to purchase or download a free e-flip version. It is complemented by our Eat Healthy, Live Better pocket guide.

Camp Hope

The National Pancreas Foundation and Rebecca’s Wish created Camp Hope, so children and young people suffering from pancreatitis, or post-TPIAT, can experience all the joys of camp without limitations. Camp Hope is a place where they can meet to bond/build friendships in a fun and medically safe environment.

MENTAL HEALTH: DON'T APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR FEELINGS

Your feelings are yours, and they are valid. No one has the right to tell you what you should or should not be feeling (not even yourself). In mindfulness practice, one of the first lessons learned is the art of acknowledging and ...noticing your feelings without judgment.⠀

For instance, instead of getting upset with yourself because you feel you’re overreacting to an insensitive joke, tell yourself: “I acknowledge that I feel angry,” or, “I notice that I’m feeling upset.” ⠀

Acknowledging your feelings not only validates them but limits the negative self-talk you might be having about what you’re feeling. And if someone else tries to tell you your feelings are “wrong”? Well, that says more about them than it says about you.
