Camp Hope Frequently Asked Questions

What is Camp Hope?

Camp Hope is the first ever summer camp designed specifically for children living with pediatric pancreatitis. It is a partnership between Rebecca’s Wish and The National Pancreas Foundation. Our mission is to provide a safe, fun, and supportive environment where campers can build friendships, gain confidence, and enjoy traditional camp activities – all while being cared for by medical professionals who understand their condition.

When is Camp Hope?

Camp Hope will take place June 8-12, 2026 at Morgan’s Camp in San Antonio, Texas.

Where is Camp Hope located?

Camp Hope will be hosted at Morgan’s Camp, an ultra-accessible residential camp facility that meets our safety, medical, and accessibility standards. Camp Hope has partnered with Morgan’s Camp since 2023.

Who can attend Camp Hope?

Any child 8 years or older who has been diagnosed with pancreatitis is encouraged to apply. Our campers are living with acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, or are post-TPIAT.

Is there on-site medical care?

Yes. Camp Hope provides 24-hour medical supervision by a dedicated team including physicians, nurses, dieticians, and mental health professionals with experience in pediatric pancreatitis. We support campers in following their individualized treatment and nutrition plans.

Who are the camp staff?

Camp Hope staff includes camp counselors, medical volunteers, and Rebecca’s Wish and NPF staff. Many staff members have professional or personal experience with pediatric pancreatitis or chronic illness care. All staff and volunteers undergo a background check and training to ensure a safe, welcoming camp environment.

What do campers do at Camp Hope?

Campers enjoy a full schedule of activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, sports, nature programs, campfires, and evening events—plus rest time, nutrition breaks, and medical check-ins as needed. Activities are adapted to be safe and inclusive for all campers.

What are cabins, bathrooms, and meals like?

Campers stay in comfortable, air-conditioned cabins with access to clean, indoor bathrooms and showers. Meals and snacks are pancreatitis-friendly, with consideration for low-fat and medically supportive dietary needs. Food service staff work closely with our medical team and dietitians.

Can campers bring snacks with them to Camp Hope?

Campers can bring pre-approved snacks with them to camp – further details will be provided at a later date.

Can families visit camp beforehand?

Due to camp scheduling and safety protocols, in-person tours are not available. However, families will be able to see parts of Morgan’s Camp at our Caregiver’s dinner the night before camper check-in.

Can family members volunteer at Camp Hope?

To support camper independence, family members cannot volunteer, unless he/she is a licensed RN or MD (if this is the case he/she is able to apply but will not be paired with their own camper).

Can I communicate with my child during camp?

Camp Hope is a cell-phone free camp. Campers will be encouraged to disconnect and enjoy the camp experience. In the event of a medical concern, parents will be contacted by camp medical staff. If a child is severely homesick, they will be able to talk to the caregiver.

What should my child bring?

A packing list will be provided at least 2 weeks prior to camp and will include active clothing, toiletries, and personal essentials.

Is bedding provided at Camp Hope?

Yes, bedding (sheets, pillow and pillowcase, throw size blanket) will be provided at Camp Hope.

How does the application process work?

Families complete an online application and medical forms. Applications are reviewed by the Camp Hope internal team to ensure we can safely meet each camper’s needs. A notification for an interview will be sent. Acceptance notifications will be sent via email.

Is it necessary to complete the whole application if my camper attended Camp Hope last year?

Yes, because anything can change from one year to the next, it is crucial that we have a complete application for each camper, including the most up-to-date information.

Do I need to include ALL medications on the application?

YES. Even if your camper knows their medication routine, it is essential for us to have a record of all medications. You are trusting us with your child and we want to ensure we have all necessary information to provide them with exceptional care. In the application, you are required to enter in all medications (OTC and prescriptions) that your camper takes.

What if my camper’s medications change between completing the application and arriving at Camp Hope?

We will send out reminders approximately 2 weeks before arrival at camp to make any medication updates in the application portal. If there is a last minute change, you can notify Camp Hope staff upon check-in and we can make the change.

Is there a fee to attend?

Camp Hope is free for all campers and volunteers. However, we ask each family to fundraise $1,000 to help support Camp Hope expenses. If a family is unable to reach the $1,000 goal, Camp Hope will cover the remaining amount — but we do ask that every family make a sincere effort to fundraise. Camp Hope also provides financial assistance for travel, with details shared during the application process.

Is transportation available?

Transportation for volunteers on Saturday, June 6, from the San Antonio Airport to Morgan’s Camp will be provided, as well as transportation from Morgan’s Camp to the airport on Friday, June 12.
