The National Pancreas Foundation has created a pancreas disease early education and awareness campaign with a focus on pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis in the Black/African American community throughout the United States. Many studies suggest that environmental and socioeconomic factors have contributed to the increased risk of pancreas disease among African Americans. Risk factors include genetics, cigarette smoking, diabetes, and obesity. NPF’s Black/African American Initiative will address these issues with the hope of decreasing the incidence of pancreas disease in the Black/African American community.

To produce this educational program, The NPF has developed the first-ever guide specifically for the Black/African American community to increase awareness about pancreas disease. This guide provides valuable information on pancreas disease and its impact on Black/African American individuals, including acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, symptoms, treatment options, and lifestyle adjustments. Its purpose is to educate individuals about pancreas disease and empower and engage them to take an active role in their healthcare journey.
