William D. Dawson
Bill Dawson joined the National Pancreas Foundation Board of Trustees shortly after it was founded in 1998. In the summer of 1997, his wife, Joan Birsic Dawson, died from pancreatic cancer.
Mr. Dawson is Vice Chairman of Federated Investment Management Company, Fixed Income. His current responsibilities include being one of our primary macro strategists in the fixed income group and a senior marketing advisor to the CEO. Bill has recently served as Chairman of Federated’s fixed income duration setting committee; and was, for over a decade, Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of global fixed-income investing for Federated Investors.
Mr. Dawson is often credited with pioneering the municipal variable rate demand notes. He has been highly involved in the development of many of the securities, which have been created in the U.S. capital markets over the last 20 years, including synthetic variable rate demand notes, asset-backed securities and, more recently, CDO’s.
Mr. Dawson is a chartered (CFA) member; holds a B.S. in mathematics from Unsullion College and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a former member of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board. He is an accomplished skier and sportsman and also enjoys playing chess and reading, in particular, the history of the capital markets.
